Sample Student Post:
Hammurabi sure did sound strict. It's a good thing that Mr. Hammock isn't that strict! Just look at these links for some of Hammurabi's laws in his law code:

Mesopotamia ~ Week 5
Sample Student Posting:
The textbook describes Mesopotamia as the "Cradle of Civilization." I think that is an odd description. It made me wonder exactly what they mean by "cradle."
Definitions of cradle
So, with those definitions, now I wonder what the book means by "Cradle of Civilization." Take a look at these sites:
Cradle of Civilization
Wikipedia Info
Iraq History
So, use all of this information. What features would an area need in order to give birth to and encourage the growth of a civilization?

Place ~ Week 4
Sample Student Posting:
I wonder exactly how prehistoric people built their shelters and homes. It's not like they could go get a realtor or start looking through the newspaper for houses. Take a look at these sites about prehistoric shelters:
Rock Shelter
Early Homes
When early people began to build shelters, they used some geographic features to decide where they would build their homes. What features affected their choice of building sites? How might geography affect their choice of building materials?

Human Interactions ~ Week 3
Sample Student Posting:
I think it's really interesting how prehistoric people organized themselves into groups and even had leaders. I wonder what leaders were like then? Check out this information and form your own conclusions:
BossMan Origins
Leadership Hierarchies
Did prehistoric leaders have any similarities to modern leaders? How would you have taken the leadership role if you had been a village chief in prehistoric times? Be specific about the prehistoric age you choose.

Legends ~ Week 2
Sample Student Posting:
I thought that the lesson about legends was really cool. I really liked the Chinese Legend about P'an Gu. It was kinda gross about his sweat becoming the rain, but I thought it was cool that "his breath became the wind and his voice, the thunder." Here are some links to other cool legends:
Ancient Pyramid Legend & Myths
Ancient Legends Give Early Warnings
Ancient Legends of Ireland
Some of these legends are really interesting. What legends have you heard that give "explanations" for natural occurences? What do you think about these legends? Why do you think they have survived for so long that people still remember them?

Human / Environmental Interactions ~ Week 1
Sample Student Posting:
One of the five themes of geography is Human/Environmental Interaction, which "deals with how people use, adapt to, or change their environment." I think that this is an interesting theme when I think about all that has happened in our area over several years. My Dad says that this area was all farmland and then they built all the houses, businesses, and the mall. Here are some links to get an idea about the amount of change that has occurred here:
History of St. Peters, MO
City of St. Peters
St. Peters, Missouri
More about St. Peters, MO
St. Peters, MO Community Profile
There has been a lot of change in this area. What do you think about all this change? Has it been good or bad, and why do you think as you do? What do you see happening in the future of our area, and how has our past affected that future?
